Filigree art boasts an age-old,
noble tradition. There is, in fact, much evidence of this kind
of art among the precious remains of the Etruscan goldsmith work
dating as far back as the VIII century B.C. and later among remains
of ancient Greek jewelry.
This kind of metal-smithing consists in bending
and interweaving fine threads of gold and silver and joining
them with invisible welding.
This ornamental technique derives from Ancient Eastern art which
was then used by Venetian and Genoese goldsmiths.
Alioto has been employing this ancient kind of metalworking since
1866, and has developed and perfected the new production techniques,
without, however, changing the metalsmithing methods which, today,
are still based on handwork.
